Demodara rail Knot

Demodara Bridge or Nine Arch Bridge is a very beautiful place that has attracted local and foreign tourists. Many people come here because of one special thing about this place. That is the Demodara rail Knot. That's what's in the video above.

This is the first time such a railway has been built not only in Sri Lanka but in the world.

Governor Sir Henry Ward was the first to start the construction of a railway line in Sri Lanka. The people who came after that gentleman have suffered immensely while building the train road from Colombo to Badulla.

After building the train road from Colombo to Badulla and covering 276 kilometers, the engineers encountered a roadblock. That is a huge mountain slope. Since it is not possible to get the train down at once from this, the coach road has to be reached after making a big circle for another 4 kilometers. A Sri Lankan son D. was on duty at Demodara railway station. Ch. Mr. Wimalasurendra. But there is a popular legend about the creative idea in Demodara area.

A story about a cowherd named Appuhami or a cowherd youth has been added to the legend. He showed how to tie the jata on his head and said that it is suitable to build the railway around the mountain. Accordingly, it is suitable to run the train by going around the mountain and passing through a tunnel under the station. A railway line was built by the British rulers.

The railway goes around a hill with an incline of 44 feet by 1 foot. That means, to lift the train one foot higher, it has to travel 44 feet.
